Federal Secretary
H74.25"; W37.5"; D21.25"
This is one of only 17 reproductions of this Federal Secretary Desk
that were made by Kittinger in the early 1970's.
Few examples of furniture in the Colonial Williamsburg collection better
exemplify the Federal style than this delicate secretary bookcase with
its overall lightness of design, extensive use of the best crotch veneer
and lightwood inlays, and reverse-painted glass panels on the doors.
Behind the doors of the upper section are seven pigeonholes and three
drawers. The shelves are adjustable; and the folding writing surface
of the lower section is lined with cabinet cloth. The brilliantly
conceived original was made in Boston, and its features have been faithfully
copied in this meticulous reproduction.
